How To Get Involved
Come to a Meeting
We hold various meetings over Zoom to connect and talk about what’s going on in our region. Some meetings are more general while others focus on specific issues.
Join a Group
MASS works with Legislative Groups, Civil Groups, and Self-Advocacy Groups, amongst others. Our members participate and then talk to the regional groups about their work.
Start Your Own Group
Don’t see what you’re looking for? Interested in a group but it’s not in your region? Tell us what you’d like to do and we’ll help you get your own group started today!
Get in Touch
If you’re not sure what you’d like to do or how you’d like to get involved, get in touch and we’ll work with you. We have a diverse group of members and we’ll help you find your place.
Topics
Because we operate across the state and have a diverse group of members, MASS covers many different topics. If you would like to learn more, get involved, or talk about a topic that isn’t listed, get in touch and we’ll help you get started!

Advocacy Interests: I love advocating for transportation and community inclusion, along with more funding for special education. Going beyond that, I want people to be able to GROW and show the whole world their greater potential.
Why I Advocate: I started to advocate because I was mistreated in my education by people I was supposed to be able to trust. I don't want anybody to go through that again. People have a right to speak up.
I continue to advocate, and to teach how to advocate, because getting someone to come out of their shell is one of the most rewarding things I can do.
When I’m not advocating you can find me: I love video games and a good burger, but I also like movies that are "so bad they're good." and regularly host viewings of them with friends online.
Donna Jay
Vice Chairperson
Advocacy Interests: Human rights and diversity.
Why I Advocate: So people know they have a voice and they can use it.
When I’m not advocating you can find me: Walking around town or in nature, doing art -painting and drawing, doing puzzles, visiting friends, and listening to music.
Paula Mione
Secretary
Advocacy Interests: I think human rights are very important because not everyone is allowed to speak up for their human rights. Everybody is supposed to have human rights but not everyone speaks up or knows how to.
Why I Advocate: I advocate for people who cannot do it for themselves. I can answer yes or no but some people can't. I don't want people making decisions for me whether it's my staff or whomever. For instance, if my agency sent a staff person over to work with me I want to be able to say that person didn't work out. I'm able to do that.
When I’m not advocating you can find me: Making bracelets for people. I like to sit out in the sun and relax and unwind.
Daysiree Perez-Batista
Sergeant-At-Arms
Advocacy Interests: What I advocate for is my independence.
Why I Advocate: I advocate to be a hard worker.
When I’m not advocating you can find me: I like to do my nails and go shopping on my free time.
Sandy Jones
Treasurer
Advocacy Interests: It’s important because so many don’t get to do what they want to so I speak up. It’s sad but many get their rights taken away.
Why I Advocate: Transportation, human rights, voting, increasing opportunities for jobs.
When I’m not advocating you can find me: Cooking, cleaning spending time with Missy, my dog, going to the beach, and shopping.
